[NSRCA-dist8] NSRCA-dist8 Digest, Vol 70, Issue 7

This is exactly the conversation Bill Carder, Bob Walker and I were having just the other day. My guess is there is an available number of contest/participant events in the district and it’s only a question of how they are delivered. As an example if there are 100 contest/participant events available in the district they can be delivered in either 10 contests with 10 participants or 5 contests with 20 participants. In my opinion 20 participant contests are far more enjoyable than 10 participant contests and 5 contests is half the work of 10. So….. I’m in favor of Meri's one contest a month strategy (way to go Meri).
If it is our goal to use contests to find potential pattern flyers we could have 5 permanent contests and one “floater” that moves from club to club every year.

So, whose going to send the money for my 2 cents worth?

I think we have too many contests, the summer is full with events every two weeks. This is a small district and I think we would be better served with fewer contests. My wife Meri had a great suggestion that I think we should consider, lets have one contest per month starting in May and ending in October. This would be 6 contests with several weeks between each contest. This can only happen if all the CDs work together and we develop the 2015 plan soon. So lets start discussing the 2015 schedule!

As I evaluated my involvement I looked at how many contests I could attend, distance was the bottom line. To make it worth the time and effort I felt 3-4. With the number of contests, spread, and driving distance I can do this. It the number of contests are reduced, depending on where they are held I may not be able to attend as many. I know it is a HUGE burden on the small number or people who organize and run these contests. Maybe the solution is not to reduce the number or contests, but to recruit and train more people to run them.
