Pat,

Welcome to the helm. Rex did a wonderful job during his tenure and I know
you will too. Thanks for stepping up.

Greetings,

As you may or may not be aware, I have taken over the duties of Dist 8 rep
from Rex. I would like to personally thank Rex for his six years at the
helm.

This years contest scheduled is shaping up nice with Medford back and a new
event at Albany. Boise is coming up soon and word is some of the Oregon boys
are planning to attend.

Please do me a favor and send me anything you might feel would be fit for
print in the KFactor (building projects, set up ideas, etc.). Photos
welcome.

On the business side, the BOD recently conducted a quick meeting to deal
with a couple of important issues. The first was addressing the fact that
AMA will no longer be paying for our NSRCA rep to attend the FAI meeting.
Estimated cost are $2,000. This meeting is held every two years. It was felt
the 2013 meeting to be of utmost importance. The board voted to pay for the
upcoming meeting experiences as well as budget for the 2015 meeting.

The second issue was telemetry. It seems a few of the newer radio systems
have telemetry to monitor receiver battery voltage, but do not have the
ability to be turned off. This is an important issue as the current rule
pretty much says "no telemetry". A rule change proposal is being submitted
to the contest committee and AMA that will basically allow telemetry that
does not give a contestant an edge.

On the flying side, in Portland we have had a pretty mild winter and have
been able to get out most weekends. Of course, spring just hit, so the
monsoons will likely be back in full force.

Regards,

Pat Harris Dist 8 VP
