It was fun. 18 pilots showed up. 2 from Canada and rest Am. One plane
(John's) went dead stick on first flight, but was recovered and flew the
rest of the contest. Bill Bowen had his troubles, but kept rebuilding
and continued to pursue. Another plane in mid flight got stuck on
idle, so he circled until it ran out of gas and landed smoothly.
Discovered it was a broken motor mount. He was lucky, could have been
much worse. One of the sportsman had to change a glow plug.
The weather was perfect on Saturday. Pit boss Gordon kept everyone
going and five rounds were flown. Lunch of grilled hamburger and hot
dogs was provided. It was exciting when the train rumbled by and you
couldn't hear your plane, but after a few rounds didn't even notice.
Being a nice day, special for the coast, their other field was active.
Only got exciting when it "appeared" they were drifting into the contest
airspace. The special was steak and shrimp at the local Pub. We ate,
drank and talked over a good meal. Next morning, as predicted, it was
raining. So passed out awards and headed home.
