Fair enough, Rex. I'd like to be able to promise that I'll be there
but.

No, I don't think the rules have changed, Mike... all of this
apparantly stems from
the clubs bylaws. Jeff stated that he will have his CD license for the
next season.
I don't know what the deal is and didn't ask. I don't really have a
problem with
paying the fee... it's all about getting enough people to show up, then
there's no
problem.

Rex

IF someone from the club was to fill out the application, take the test
and submit it for grading in first part of the year they can then be the
CD of record with one of the current CD's being the back up or whatever
they call it. They haven't changed that rule have they Rex?

I have nothing against a club charging a fee for a contest where they
realize a couple hundred bucks profit after the costs are covered.
After all, they have to be able to show their club flyers why they had
to give up that weekend of flying. Ray's example is well taken. Let's
also not forget what the Emerald Air Corps has been putting on for the
past 20+ years; they have treated us better than at the Nationals year
after year and for a minimal fee! If you need to make money on a
contest then follow the two cited example and Pattern Junkies from
North, South and East will show up (especially if they don't have to get
into Seattle traffic to do it!

Mike

I'm a little resentful of the $300 site rental fee. The Molalla club
allows several contests to be held at our site each year hosted by
others for no fee what-so-ever. If it's a really big event and requires
additional porta-potties then we ask the user to pay for these,
otherwise we do it so our members can see something new, different and
learn more about our hobby. It also gives our members a chance to
participate in something new that is close to home if they like. I
think other clubs should do the same.

I like the idea of another contest, but not the fee.

Folks

I've been in contact with Jeff Bellinger, the president of the Wenatchee
club...
We can have a contest at their site anywhere from late May to early
June.
June 13-14 is scheduled for Molalla. That leaves Late May or the first
weekend in
June.
Ok, here's the lowdown on using their site. Since this contest would
not be a Wenatchee
club activity, we would have to pay a rental fee for the use of their
site. The fee for two days
is $300. That means we would have to get enough flyers to not only pay
that fee, but pay
for awards, scoring costs, etc.... Which brings the total to around
$350. As long as we have
enough entries, this wouldn't be a problem. You do the math... it
would take around $25 for entry
for 15 pilots to pay for the fee. I'd hate to get into the situation
that we schedule a contest there
then only have 8 pilots show up. I need a consensus of what all of you
want to do. This is a very
nice flying site and Jeff tells me that he and a few of the club members
want to fly in this contest.
He plans on getting his CD license. Then he could hold the contest at
that site and it would be a club
activity and the site use fee would be waved. Jeff also indicated that
the club would like to keep holding
contests there for years to come. This is somewhat like what has
happened at Redmond. We held one
contest there and was immediately invited to continue with contests
there. This could be a good thing.
As you may or may not know, we have lost our normally first contest at
Sumner, Wa. They have lost use
of that flying site. This is a good opportunity to get another contest.
However, we need to support
this idea if it is to work.
The wenatchee site has RV sites available for $15/day, including water
and power.
Dry camping is available for $5/day
Send me your thoughts and we'll see what everyone wants to do... Also,
we need to decide on
which weekend to hold the contest.

Thanks

Rex
