Thank you for holding the NSRCA organization together in our district. It was very troubling to read the email vitriol from people I have always admired and respected. No one won in those exchanges and many lost, including our Riverside club, with our pattern contest this month cancelled. We have had this yearly event for over 20 years and is one of two revenue makers for our club (the IMAC contest also cancelled). When a flyer, like me, gets into his mid-seventies the hand-eye coordination goes the way of phone booths and eight-track tapes. However, pattern flying is a great discipline and keeps me young at heart. Each change of maneuvers for advanced got so demanding and difficult I dropped down a class. What I'm getting at is District Championship points don't mean jack-squat to me because I'm in it for the enjoyment. If it is that much of a problem, why have it? We have already lost Hemet and Riverside contests this year and hopefully we won't lose more. Can there be "fair and impartial" judging between pilots who have made personal attacks on one another? At our Riverside contest last year a very well-know pilot lost his cool and went through the pit area, with wives and kids present, shouting swear words that would make any Marine Drill Instructor blush. It really took the fun out of the event. What have we come to? I am a proud member of the NSRCA because it promotes pattern flying, assists in developing the maneuvers for each class, runs the pattern NATS, aids the AMA in developing rules, has a great magazine (The K-Factor) and runs judging seminars. My problem stems from the fact that those pattern flyers that are not members of NSRCA don't get pattern judge training (some members don't either) and are judging at contests. As a suggestion, more one-day contests for us older pilots would be welcome. Four rounds are usually ample to decide places in each class and is much easier on these old bones. As an organization we must put priorities on what we must accomplish and Jon, I think you have made a good start in this regard. This list is for discussion and conversation regarding pattern issues in and about our district. There is never any room on this list for personal attacks, or publishing any personal information in a negative vein. Disagreements and reasoned arguments are fine. Just please do not devolve into personal attacks. Going forward if a thread goes into personal and non-pattern related issues, I will ask the list moderator to intervene. If this does not stop the negative postings, I will warn the offending parties. If they still pursue personal attacks I will notify them that I will ask the NSRCA Board of Directors to initiate the removal procedure as outlined in our bylaws. Believe me, I have no desire to ever be required to take that step, so please keep all postings civil and free of personal attacks or personal information.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>As you are all aware, our D7 vice president John Bentley, has resigned. I have had several long talks with him and I have reluctantly accepted his resignation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank John for stepping up and taking on the position to foster and guide pattern in district 7. John has always acted honorably and with the best interests of pattern in our district as his guiding principle. According to our NSRCA bylaws it is now my responsibility as President to select a member to fill out the remainder of John’s term. I have had discussions with multiple members from all across our district and there was a concurrence that this person would be an excellent choice if he would accept. I asked him and he stepped up and said he would accept the challenge. I then proposed his name to the NSRCA Board of Directors and he was unanimously approved. I am pleased to announce that Chris Fitzsimmons is our new NSRCA District 7 vice president. Please give him your support and understand that he is assuming this position almost halfway into our contest season.
