If you've been following the discussion on RCU, you know that I've been working on an iDevice app and enhancement to Gordon's Excel spreadsheet-based scoring system to allow judges to score from an iDevice and have those scores seamlessly transferred into the Excel spread sheet, eliminating the need for someone to hand-transcribe the paper score sheets into excel.  The goal is to save time on the scoring computer side and make judging a little more straight-forward and possibly less subjective.

I think the app is ready for a real-world trial in contest conditions.  At Sac I spoke to Dick Belden about using Oakdale as a proving ground and he was amenable.  My thinking is that for this contest we'll do things both ways -- paper and iDevice for those willing to judge with the app, paper only for those who want to stick with paper.  You can either score with the iDevice and then quickly transcribe the scores from the "review" screen (screenshots below) or vice-versa, score on paper and then transcribe to the iDevice (it runs on iPads too).  I would prefer that you score with the iDevice as that would allow me to get your feedback on the interface, etc.  The intent is to make it possible to have your finger hit just 2 or 3 buttons while scoring so you don't need to look away from the sky...

If you are interested in participating with your device, read below so that I can get you a package that you can drop into iTunes to transfer to your device (it's not on the app store yet) if you don't have an iDevice but are willing to try it, I can loan you one of mine.

Oh, and of course, this is all at the CD's discretion, as a contestant, if you don't want to be scored by iDevice, that's your perogative, but I'd be very interested in why you don't want it and if there's something I can do to make it more palatable to you.

Yes, I know FAI doesn't do 1/2 points, this is just a quick illustration!

To get my app on onto your iDevice I need some information about your phone. Guess what, there is an app for that!

Click on the below link and install and then run the app.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/ad-hoc-helper/id285691333?mt=8

This app will create an email. Please send it to me.

Finally, I have *no idea* what kind of cell/data coverage is available in Oakdale, so this may all simply not work since the app needs an internet connection to work.  And, of course, if that happens I've gotten some valuable data as well :-)

Thanks All!
