[NSRCA-dist1] District Championship still something we do?

Thanks. I shouldn't let my frustration bubble up like that but I was annoyed that I made my summer plans based on the NSRCA Events calendar and therefore didn't see the 2 D1 contests I referenced earlier. And I guess I paid for the bad karma, I fried my esc/motor today and wrecked a some damage on the airframe as well.

I learned that adjacent district tournaments can also be counted today. If that still holds and if you get a bonus point for 5 or more contestants in the field then I have two wins to chose from this summer in that category.

I won the D2 Shenandoah
http://www.nsrca.us/contest_results/2014/D2/Bridgewater/contestResults.xml

and won the D4 Weak Signals a couple of weeks ago that had 5

One thing that might make pattern more interesting is if some of the top flyers talk to D1 RC club presidents and offer to go to the fields that have no pattern flyers and no contests and do some pattern demos. Give the club some time to drum up interest in advance of the date and let the club members try to fly the sportsman sequence with the help of our traveling experienced pattern flyer; ie, a grass roots effort. Even talk to the club presidents about hosting a pattern contest even if they have no active flyers just to throw that out there if the club has the facilities to support such an event. This type of stuff has probably been discussed before but in my club of 100 members, it'd be all new to them. My sportsman flying is hardly motivating, ;-)

Hi Lucky,
I can appreciate your frustration and it is great you question these things. I felt the same way when trying get things moving in this district. Many unanswered emails were sent to ask CD to list their contest on the NSRCA site or send in the contest results. No one is more at fault than me since an urgent business trip kept me away from my own contest.
Not sure what the reason but we are a district in decline with a few determined pilots trying to keep it together. Please stick with us as we could certainly use your energy and enthusiasm to get us moving.
I normally don't like to air dirty laundry in public but I am dragging this out there to see if we can do something about it.

The shoot out counts for d1 points

Good Morning,

I have a some questions and comments.

Does this shootout count towards D1? It's listed as a D2 contest in one area of NSRCA's website but the title implies that it could be applicable to D1.

Who's the chief in charge that should be able to clarify this?

And some advice I'd like to give, get contest information out there MUCH better. It's like finding a needle in a haystack sometimes. There's a facebook page and an nsrca1 email distribution list that are essentially dead/stale and the NSRCA D1 info is not up to the standards of the other Districts I've looked at carefully this summer.

I want to go to the official nsrca website for info and know I'm not missing anything. If I look at what should be the obvious place to go, the EVENTS/RESULTS tab which is FRONT and CENTER on the NSRCA home page, there is not one iota about the Cannadaguia or the apparently upcoming final D1 contest which is only found if I drilled down under the district areas (why should I have to know that info would be there and not in the darn place that's actually setup to be a calendar and contact area)....and when I do find it under the sub sub sub district area of the website, the information is LAME. what's AGS? What's Frank's contact info? Where's the location? Where's a website link to the club's homepage? I've competed in D2 and D4 this year and have to say they have MUCH better managed information and more novice friendly. If you want to know why D1 participation is down, just look at how a newbie would perceive the effort to get information nor the lack of offers to hold sportsman pattern primers prior to a competition so newbies aren't embarrassed to show up at a contest cold as a couple of reasons why. Make information more logical, complete and consistent. Have a better web presence on facebook, drum up some 'excitement', publicly celebrate success, etc. It just comes across as a insider only, closed group...

Where's the D1 articles in K-factor? When I competed in Toledo a couple of weekends ago I was asked if D1 pattern was healty since you can't tell from K-factor or our facebook page. I didn't know what to tell them.

OK, off my soapbox/rant. Just frustrated actually 'trying' to get into D1 pattern and finding it too challenging at times.

thx,

lucky

I have senjt a request to thr cds to provide me with thr results to add up the points. All sanctioned contests in the district will count towards the point total.

Thanks. Since I see no evidence that any contest results have been turned anywhere for d1 this year how would we know what's being counted? For example, we were told at the contest the Haverstraw results would count for sportsman but did it really? Never saw the results posted.

Thx,
Lucky

Hi Lucky,

I forwarded your email to the District VP Jeff Hatton who manages the district points and Sal Pui who runs the website. Below is Jeff's response.
Have fun at Penguin! Unfortunately, I can't make it.

Hey Guys, hope you are packing up for the contest tomorrow.

I notice the nsrca website has not been updated since 2012 per the copy and paste below nor can I find out how I stand compared to the other sportsman in the District. What's up with all that? Who can tell me how I stand overall?

Also, what do you get for winning district? I noticed last weekend in D4 they had cool polo shirts for previous district champions.

thx,
lucky
