It doesn't apply to local contests and I don't think (could be wrong here) that it doesn't apply to the NATS (unless maybe a Team Selection year?). At any rate, the majority of folks that compete are flying Sportsman - Masters so the point is moot for most. For those flying FAI, I only see how this new rule matters to those that fly a purely FAI sanctioned event.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif;color:#0000ff"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif;color:#0000ff">One person mentioned that Australia follows the numbering scheme of the FAI but I also believe that the US has a different circumstance. Many countries' pilots have to "prove" that they are capable of FAI before they get to fly P and F sequences in competition and that's what the majority of people strive for. Almost like a "work your way up" competition license. In the US, many folks have no desire to ever compete in FAI so, the AMA created the Sportsman-Masters classes which, while they follow the guidelines of FAI pretty close, make allowances for those that have no interest in going through to FAI which also allows the potential to attract new pilots by allowing more weight in some instances or any AMA legal airplane in the Sportsman class, a small weight increase allowance for Intermediate and Advanced, etc. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif;color:#0000ff"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif;color:#0000ff">In my opinion, what this boils down to is about 3-5 people having to put their FAI number on their plane because they will compete internationally. <p class="MsoNormal">We are not that independent of the FAI as much as what you may perceive. I am an AMA competition board member. When we vote on proposed rules changes we do take into consideration what the FAI does. The majority of our rules and regulations
are very much in line with FAI. At one time they were not. We do try to make changes that make sense that will enhance and improve competition participation on the regional and national level. Unfortunately, our niche in the hobby has become more and more
a sport for those who can throw money at it. FAI, in my personal opinion, is one of the major driving forces to this situation we find ourselves in. The level of complexity we have reached has greatly decreased participation in our sport along with other distractions
in our lives. It is basically a $7-10K proposition to have a full blown primary and a backup airframe. Well you say build your own airframe to reduce cost? Not everyone has the time or building skills required.</p>

FAI ID is mandatory. Pilots need to display Country Code and FAI ID on their planes, if they want to take part in an FAI competition.

National licence number caused a lot of confusion because there sometimes were competitors who had more than one.
<b>The FAI ID is unique. </b>Whenever anybody had one, he will have it forever, even if the licence isn't valid.

an FAI License, has received it via his national federation. So in my opinion the FAI ID may be sufficient for national competitions, too. But this is on behalf of the NACs not to complicate the case. They should use the FAI card above fro printouts. On some
licenses issued by some NACs important FAI ID is missing. This should be changed.</span><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(38,40,42)"><u></u><u></u></span></p>
