Gents - here is my new(er) to electric perspective on the ESC choice for an out runner: Plett and Himax.
<div><br clear="none">
</div>
<div>Fresh off running engines All this time I’ll compare it to the two cycle versus four cycle debate. After crashing my Axion /YS setup, I decided to buy Jerry’s BJ Incitation with Plett ADV setup so I could get into a more modern plane, and thought
I would convert it to YS at some point. </div>
<div><br clear="none">
</div>
<div>I basically went with the OS/Futaba controller right away. Despite trying numerous props, the “flight envelope” was not totally in control. It was lacking the down line and exit speed control offered by the YS - but ran exceptional in all
other aspects. Pleased enough, I bought a second Invitation from Paul, with Himax, and also installed an OS controller, noting identical performance observations. Overall great, but even with brake set at 90%, there is a freewheeling of the prop that cannot
be dealt with. </div>
<div><br clear="none">
</div>
<div>This is EXACTLY analogous to the 2-cycle versus 4- Cycle debate, with the Outrunner being the 2-cycle, and the Contras being the 4-cycle. Until the greatest advancement in speed controllers came out: The D3.</div>
<div><br clear="none">
</div>
<div>The D3 controller will turn your single prop outrunner (2-cycle’ish), into a perfectly tuned YS 4-cycle, every flight. The D3 will not let the prop spin or freewheel or over speed at all - it is eliminated. It’s unbelievable different and
the flight envelope becomes 100% in control all the time: </div>
<div><br clear="none">
</div>
<div>Down lines slower and the plane “decelerates” as it should in an exit radius. Even landing speed and approach more under control. Perhaps my friends that have seen it fly before and after will chime in, but there is a tru visible difference
in the flight profile. That’s my observations, and it really light!!</div>

<div>Mike, as far as I know there are no limitations on the Graupner esc concerning the brake unlike the issues of running the brake over 30% for the CC. The Graupner actually has a dynamic
break from the limited few weeks I flew it last year. Once the brake is engaged it appeared that the lower one lowered the low end the higher the break percentage would be. I only flew the esc after the NATs last year for a few weeks and at first I did not
realise it was changing the break the lower I lowered the low end. This might be good or bad feature but I'm sure someone would be able to make good use of it. I had no issues with temperatures and it seemed like the Pyro 600 motor for the contra ran much
better. I think it will work well with the Pletty or any other current motor out there.<span> </span><br clear="none">
