Because I log all my flights, I know that on September 11, 1999, I flew my Great Planes Super Kaos right into a limbo pole at a Phantom Flyers fun fly in St. Charles MO. Before that fateful flight, the Super Kaos, the plane that got me to and thru that fateful
first pattern contest, was now relegated to the role of backup plane after I started flying a hand me down Atlas that probably weight 11 lbs (thanks Ed White!). The wing was still in one piece with a gaping hole in the leading edge. The tail feathers made
it too, but everything else was smashed. I figured I would get around to fixing it one day and, well, first flight is nearly here. I built a new fuselage, vertical fin, and rudder, gluing the old stab and elevators to the airframe. I fixed the wing, installed
the radio gear, and fired up a OS 61 FX that has not been started in 5 years. Fired up on the first starter spin. Down here in Florida now, the only thing I need to wait for is, well, the in-laws to leave. We will see how it goes..... I still won't use
this in a pattern contest, but if all goes well, hey, are there any SPA contests around here?
