There are various threads about the salt water 'solution' on RC Groups and the dissolving of the tabs is an issue. If the tabs are gone before the voltage reaches zero there is now way to discharge the individual cells.

I basically slowly discharge the pack with a series of tail light bulbs. I leave the bulbs connected for a day or so, measure the voltage to make sure it is zero V, then twist the main leads together to make sure there is no chance or any type voltage recovery and throw them in the trash. Once fully discharged, the lipos are not environmentally harmful according to the experts.

Has anyone had issues with the electrodes being eaten away when put in salt water? As I understand, if there is a charge left in the cells, the nickel tabs will corrode away leaving the cells still charged but without a way to discharge them. Thus, it id important to fully discharge the cells to 0 volts before putting them in salt water. Haven't run into this but would like to know if anyone else has.
