There is merit I feel to allow more weight in the sportsman through advanced classes After years of pattern competition and listening to the advice of many top pilots and observing local and national competition my understanding is that pilots in the AMA classes have overlooked the most important aspects of the learning curve and what is needed for advancement to the top of their ability in pattern competition. I have come to believe that the most important aspect which drives all of the other necessary requirements is desire. After that comes the ability to properly select and trim an airplane any of the available pattern capable ARF's, ARC's or Kit's will do 60 size, 90 size, 110 size or 2 meter, just pick one that fits your fancy and pocket book Then you are ready to start the pattern journey to success which I have learned over the years is 90% practice. In order to try to further AMA pattern as well as other personal reasons I have joined another quest and will be flying an eight pound 110 size electric in the future. For some reason I cant forget judging the most near perfect flight that I had ever seen and have not seen since When Boxer Bob proved that practice and consistency is what drives success by winning the Nat's with a 60 size two stroke airplane. A perfect airplane of any size or cost is not a winner without a dedicated pilot who has the desire, and practice to win.
