NOT prizes--they gave 'em to the guys to <EM>fly</EM> in the contest. This was early on when Phil Kraft was CD. The last one I attended was in '88 or so and didn't pay that much attention to it after that--and dropped out for ten years in the early '90s--so I don't know what really transpired after. The point was what influenced me early on was the support of Futaba there, prizes at pattern contests, their reps and competitors I changed from being a Kraft Signature guy to Futaba for the reasons I mentioned plus they were the first with PCM and had stuff on 50 as a standard. JR was a little later to the party--THEN. They have an excellent product and support NOW. But <STRONG><EM>I </EM></STRONG>got hooked THEN and have seen no compelling reason to change. The closest I came to even thinking about changing was the Yakima, WA NATS in the late '80s where I thought I <EM>might</EM> have a crack at the top ten or fifteen(probably kidding myself--a guy can dream--practiced my ass off!) and many of the Futaba receivers were a little too sensitive(mine too) and went in to HOLD at the wrong times (when is it good?) They responded well I thought; and I'm still using those receivers--hold free since. I have not had quality or service problems and have paid the street price for all my stuff. I had a battery that showed ZERO volts upon landing at the St. Louis contest last August and my Futaba receiver warned me in time to land. So I'm a fan. And windy.<BR>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial>Inasmuch as Mr. Bennett was a long-time owner of Circus Hobbies, and a large investor in JR, hard to believe that he would be interested in promoting Futaba. As a long time resident of Las Vegas, and a constant attendee of the TOC, I can't recall ever seeing a prize table, per se. Not to say it didn't exist, but it wasn't obvious enough to attract my attention. Perhaps Mr. Bennett figured that the $4500 minimum show-up money was enough incentive.</FONT></DIV>

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking Futaba gave two radios with gobs of servos to many of the invitees--and I'm fairly sure Futaba was on the podium with most of the winners most of the time. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.<BR> <BR>Richard<BR> <BR>
