        look at it as a "safety" issue it's OK to point out the differences in 
        some of the regulators we use in our airplanes. The Tech Aero regulators 
        can be left connected directly to the battery 9no in-line switch 
        required) for a reasonable amount of time (at least a few weeks) without 
        any harm to the battery because they draw almost NO current when they're 
        "off".&nbsp;Not all&nbsp;regulators are like this.<BR>That being said, 
        if you're going to lay up your airplane for an extended period of time 
        it's important to disconnect the battery no matter what brand of 
        regulator you're using. <SPAN>LiPOs</SPAN> aren't too happy about being 
        discharged to 0V!</DIV>

          John's ethics wouldn't let him send this to the list--but this is the 
          kind of stuff that is helpful--probably would have saved a 40.00 
          battery--and maybe my house--since the reg was plugged up <BR>while 
          Pam and I&nbsp;participated in&nbsp;a seminar for a few 
          days.&nbsp;&nbsp; One of those deals where I sort of pushed to get it 
          in the air b/4 leaving town, flew it the nite b/4, put it up--and 
          didn't think about it until I got back with time to run out to the 
          field.&nbsp; Battery had puffed and was 'loose'--I had no clue as to 
          why--except I convinced myself I MUST have left it on--or hit the

                <DIV>You can leave a Tech Aero regulator connected directly to 
                the battery for a LONG time before the battery discharges to an 
                unsafe level. Ed and&nbsp;I designed them with a very low 
                quiescent current draw just for that reason. We also have a 
                fail-safe switch arrangement on our regulators. If the switch 
                fails, the regulator (and your airplane) stays ON. If you put a 
                mechanical switch in-line between the battery and the regulator, 
                you could experience loss of power if the switch fails (and they 
                do).</DIV>

                complicated to build one of these yourself but why bother? The 
                Radio south meter is reasonable and it works every time.</DIV>

                  Bought the set-up from Brian(Tanic).&nbsp; After I took my 
                  completely shot 1500s back to him after they wouldn't hold a 
                  charge--he asked " You DID separate the regulator from the 
                  battery--didn't you--like I told you?!!!"&nbsp; "No", I said 
                  sheepishly....&nbsp; The regs evidently draw a tiny amount 
                  when hooked up.<BR>I'm going to call Tony--that's 
                  <EM>exactly</EM> what I was looking
