I also had questions regarding the old
antenna and Tony Stillman advised that there would be no adverse effects leaving
the old antenna connected. I still switch back and forth between 72 and 2.4
and I fully extend the old antenna in order to achieve the correct support
balance no matter which freq I'm utilizing ( so I won't get out of the habit
when switching to 72).

I dont even position the 2.4
transmitter antenna where you would expect. It's positioned sideways under
the Transmitter and I don't even have the receiver antennae at right angles
inside the plane. I know it sounds like I'm doing everything wrong, but I've had
it now for several months and not even a hint of a glitch. If I had all my
planes converted to 2.4, I would still leave the old antenna attached for the
good balance it provides, so my feeling is that you probably shouldn't be all
that concerned. I think you'll be fine.

stated, the instructions are referring to the transmitter antenna.
However, you don’t actually need to remove the telescopic antenna from the
transmitter, just collapse it and leave it in the collapsed position. The 2.4
GHz transmitter operation will work just fine with the telescoping antenna
installed in the transmitter as long as it is collapsed. My 9CAP
transmitter is configured this way and I have experienced no problem with my
Futaba 2.4 GHz system.
