> Ron, I have seen utilities folks use a very sensitive mike. They turned
the
> water flow off and on and were able to hear it loudest at two points and
dug
> > The location is up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in
> > southwest Georgia. The well services a group of about twenty cabins
> > and the pipes were installed in about 1977. We want to install a
> > cutoff valve in a 4" PVC pipe about 100 yards from the well, but
want
> > to minimize the digging to find the pipe. I can't find any record of
> > how the pipes were installed; no layout plan. I think the pipes were
> > privately installed, so no local utilities were involved.
> >> I am trying to trace the route of a 4" PVC water pipe about
100 yards
> >> from a well. The pipe is buried about 12" to 14"
underground. I
> >> think it goes fairly straight. I don't want to dig down to find
the
> >> pipe until I'm sure where it is, because the soil is VERY
difficult
> >> to dig in, due to lots of gravel and clay. Although I'm sure
there
> >> are instruments which will enable one to trace the route of the
pipe,
> >> I don't have a clue who to ask. Any help available out there?
