for pattern. Even with the additional ignition module, I have had far more
reliable running with my gas engines than I had with glow. If a glow motor
does not have the mixture just right, it can deadstick. With gas/ignition,
it just doesn't run quite as well. And the price of fuel is no
comparison.

Soft mounting with
headers/pipes could be an issue (hotter exhaust), but probably not much more
than glow.

20 years ago I would

this point to put the time into figuring all this stuff out. I'd rather let
someone else work out the kinks. :-) Also, electrics are just too
easy, although expensive
initially.

Bob

We used the ZDZ 40 (non F3A version) hard mounted initially but
after fluttering one aileron it was decided to install a custom made soft
mount. The plane was 11 lbs 5-6 oz. The Abbra is very light airframe
and we could not make the 11 lbs. Therefore, meeting weight is
probably your first issue. Second issue is noise. I think we
were OK using the soft mount and the ES pipe header for gas engines.
However, I never had chance to measure noise
levels.

I flew the
plane 3-4 times and it was evident that the power was was limited compared
with the Abbra glow version in doing the old Master schedule.
I believe that prop selection could be part of the problem but never
had chance to try other props. I think that gas is a good option in
the lower classes. Base on this single experience, it could be a
problem for Master or
F3A.

--
Vicente "Vince"

Probably a stupid question, but has anyone had any
success running gas engines in pattern ships? The Brison 2.4 and

example.

Bob

<FONT
