saying why Sportsman is not flown at the NATS)</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>Again, you're getting hung-up on the term "sanctioned." Yes, fun-flys and
fly-ins are sanctioned events... but they are not competitions. I am
suggesting the stamp only for contests. For instance, if a pilot wishes to fly
in a competition event 402 (Intermediate pattern), a stamp is required,
but 705 (competitive fun-fly) is not. Just like with the Nats, provisional
classes are exempt (Sportsman, or, the politically-incorrect term I prefer,
Novice) unless they choose to attend and fly Sportsman (at which point you
allow them to purchase the stamp at the event. OK, I'm not going to try and
explain this any further, Tony understood what I was saying, that's all I
really cared about.</DIV>

<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">The problem is...</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">A fun Fly is often a sanctioned
competition. A LOT of guys will fly in Fun Flys, but no other
sanctioned events.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">Same goes for Big Bird fly
ins.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">Same goes for a lot of events that get
held... You can get a sanction for a Mall so in order to get the
sanction insurance for the event!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">If the stamp is required to fly at a
sanctioned event... then you have just about required all RC flyers to buy
the stamp... might as well have raised AMA dues for RC, because just about
anyone that flys WILL participate in SOME sanctioned event.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">In all likelyhood... the same could be
said about CL and FF... I anm sure they sanction some events that are not
necessarilly very competitive.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">Now it SHOULD be obvious that the criteria
of the event being sanctioned requiring the stamp is not a good
idea...</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">Maybe you could call it a "AA" stamp...
and any event with AA or higher sanction requires the stamp... Pretty
much the AA and higher events will be attended by more serious competitors.
(but there will be exceptions, just as there are some guys who will go to
the NATS and enter just to say they did.)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">I would oppose having it start at "A"
level. If you want to attract entry level Pattern flyers... you won't
be helping by making them buy some "competition stamp" in order to
fly.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">My bet is... if you started such a stamp
program, no matter at what level... it would reduce competition
participation, since it would be seen as a backhanded way to raise AMA dues.
(which would really be what it amounted to anyway)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman"></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman">The more I think about it... the more I
know that adding the stamp requirement would be a bad idea.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>The point of the stamp was not for just those who want to go to the
Nats, but if they wanted to compete in ANY(not just
Pattern) AMA-sanctioned competitive event. That way the entire
competition community helps pay for it, not just those who go to the Nats
(otherwise you could just raise the cost of Nats entry). I was looking for
a solution that did not cause an increase in the Nats entry fee yet still
defrayed the costs of the Nats at a minimal cost to membership and zero
cost to the "sport pilots" who don't want to keep paying for us to have
our "little contests."</DIV>

<DIV>The stamp sounds like a good idea it could work.charge $20.00 for
the competition stamp. </DIV>
<DIV>Let's see the Nat's is in the red $25,000.00 divide that by 6
weeks = 42 days = $595.24 per day x 4 days = NSRCA share =
$2380.96 divide that by say 120 entrants = $19.84 each oops I forgot
they raised the entry fee $10.00 this year, It could be that we only
need to charge $10.00 for the stamp </DIV>
<DIV>I don't know what the total daily cost is but if we pay then other
groups should also share the cost on an equal basis. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>There is plenty open time at the Nat's site now to
schedule other events most of those mentioned are never held
during the Nat's because many of those flying in them are at
the Nat's</DIV>
