away from the original. This year will be my first NATS...my goal is to
not embarrass myself, that's it, no sense setting the goal too
high. I've flown in a bunch of local contests, the intense nervous thing
isn't a problem any longer, however, I am fully aware that my first time
stepping in front of the judges at the NATS is going to be a real issue.
My goal for my first NATS is to have fun, meet a ton of people that I've only
talked to online or read about, and come away having learned a few
things. Those goals are completely achievable, and those goals I will
achieve.</FONT></DIV>

at Olathe, Kansas (1968 or 1969?). At that point the NATS were
still able to be held in less than a month of flying competitions... and
all sorts of events were being flown simultaneously. I was just a
kid, with a group of Cub Scouts, flying in the AMA Delta Dart
competition. (because the Cub Scout leaders arranged for us to go)
It was more a field trip to get to see the other events though.

events at once. You may have to pick and choose which to
participate in if you desire to compete in several different

from site to site and see many different aspects of aeromodeling all in
one day. But if you are actually competing in an event such as

being able to observe the other modeling disciplines, such as pylon or
CL combat. I guess it is nice in one way to have the whole site for
pattern, but not having other events going on simultaneously is a

We have the Pattern Nats as a stand alone event, as we use all three
