Jim,

Yeah my 9Z with a synth. module doesn't work with
some of the Bergs either. With a fixed frequency module it works fine. I never
did dig into it to find out why since I have a 9C w/synth. module that talks to
the Bergs just fine. Interestingly enough my 9Z did attempt to talk to
positive shift Rx at one time! I was setting up a review airplane and I didn't
notice that the Rx they gave me was positive shift. It actually worked (I think
the center points were way off though) but one of the channels - I think CH6
didn't work. Weird. I figured it out eventually (look at the box dummy!) but for
a while it was interesting...

I don't know about the synth module compatibility.
That is probably a frequency shift direction issue. I have a six meter
9Z and long ago I bought a DAD PPM receiver made by FMA and they had to do a
major mod to it to make it work with the 9Z. As I recall, if you look at
the output of the discriminator you get the familiar series of control pulses
going from zero to some voltage for about 300 microseconds with spacing of 1
to two milliseconds depending on stick position. But then there is a
long period, like seven milliseconds used to sync the decoder. On most
systems the voltage would be low, like the period between the pulses but with
the 9Z transmitter the signal would be high like the peaks of the
pulses.

My Berg, that came directly from Peter, worked and I
don't recall telling him anything about the 9Z other than what channel it was
on. I assumed it figured out all the polarities and did what it needed
to do. I can't say why it wouldn't work with the
synthesizer.

I'm pretty sure it won't work. The sync pulse
is the wrong polarity with respect to the servo position pulses in the
