<DIV>Got to add a big thank you to all the folks involved in the efforts to
produce a great opportunity for some fun, new, pattern wannabe's to experience
their first taste of competition.</DIV>
<DIV>Sportsman pilot Medina flew his first "Sequence" (of any type) about 10
days prior to the event. It would be an understatement to say that he was
hyped at winning with a Balsa-Nova against a couple of 2-meter
competitors.</DIV>
<DIV>Thanks Ed and John for coming up with the idea to hold this event and to
Rick for his efforts in laying out the box markers and demo flights and Frank
and Ann and Matt and Walt and the hard working kitchen crew.In spite of the
cool temps and few mistings of rain a very good time was enjoyed, it would
seem, by all in attendance.</DIV>
<DIV>Thanks again,</DIV>

returned to Connecticut! (PlymouthPattern Primer results)</DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<P>With the experienced help of Walt Erickson, Matt Kebabjian, Frank
Granelli and Rick Wallace as coach/caller/judging panel, we were able to
pull off a very successful Pattern Primer at the home field of the
Connecticut Model Airplane Club in Plymouth, CT. Thanks go out to
C.M.A.C. for the use of their field and for providing some really great eats
for lunch Thanks also to John Pavlick, who had the enthusiasm to
convince them to help make this happen in the first place. And most of
all, thanks very much to Ann Granelli (Frank's wife) for a great job with
the scoring. </P>
<P>6 pilots competed in Sportsman and 3 in Intermediate, with a mix from the
surrounding CT area and also traveling from Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
New York and New Jersey. In Sportsman, we had Herb Kohler return
after a long hiatus from Pattern and also Merril Morsey who is continuing to
be involved and getting more proficient with every contest. New to the
Pattern in Sportsman were Chris Iorio, Roy Medina, Bob Lemay and John
Marien. Bob and John both have previous IMAC interests and
experience. </P>
<P>Matt Kebabjian provided a good overview of what to do, what the judges
look for and what to expect for first timers. We paired up coaches to
pilots and then with help from Rick Wallace, we performed demos of the
Sportsman and Intermediate sequences, then got the Sportsman class
going. The first Sportsman round was scored, but not counted in the
standings, to allow pilots to see results and have a chance to get good
coaching and feedback on what happened during their first competition
Pattern flight. Following that, 3 full rounds of Intermediate and
Sportsman were done, with one short rain delay. Feedback and answers
to questions were a continuous thing all day long and we saw definite
improvement by everyone as the day progressed. </P>
<P>All-in-all, we had a great time, even thought there was the unfortunate
loss of one model. It looks very much like we have several new Pattern
competitors joining us for more events this season and also have rekindled
pattern in Connecticut. Next year, we're shooting for something with
all classes at a larger facility. Stay tuned!</P>
