this, but I maidened my Quest yesterday. This is an airplane that I picked up at
the Wram show from Eric Henderson for a song and I had to let everybody
know my reflections.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Eric had long been singing the praises of the
aircraft so I felt that it was worth the effort of putting one together. It's
been finished for some time, but the weather being what it has I have been
unable to start to wring it out.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I had about a 6 year old 120 FZ hanging around so I
decided to throw it in and see how things would turn out.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I did a bunch of mixing during set-up ( down-line,
elev @ idle, roll @ idle,e.t.c.) so when it took off there was not a heck of a
lot to compensate for.I have to confess to being influenced by my good friend
Troy regarding C.G. and have tried moving things a little more forward than I'm
accustomed to so I did experience a little mixing at K.E.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Eric's claims of zero couple may just be accurate
as a further aft C.G. may negate the need for the elev compensation I'm using,
due to the forward C.G. I did experience a very slight roll couple on one side,
but all in all, this is a very nice feeling airplane. In spite of the forward
C.G. (30%) the amount of down elev required for inverted is what feels normal to
me at this juncture.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Take-off was steady and predictable, 2 clicks up
and one click aileron and smooth sailin' from there. Of course, I may be blowing
the horn prematurely due to the fact that the wind was about 6 kts. so it
remains to be seen how this baby behaves in a breeze. Landings were a little
long as I neglected the airbrakes, but the sink rate was rock solid with no
ballooning. This thing has large aileron surfaces so rolls are crisp without
being fast. I may end up using a rate switch for snaps, but I would like to
avoid that if at all possible so I will be playing with that a little more to
see if I can dial in an acceptable result.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The power felt very good, but the temps were a
little cool so I may have to re-assess that observation when things warm up.Went
through about 1/2 P-07 and the Advavced sequence and still had 7 0z. of
fuel to decant.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>As of now, I'm feeling quite encouraged regarding
the prospects of this airplane and feel I can recommend it without
reservation.</FONT></DIV>

around 29" and the Smaragd is close to 33". That's how I guage how wide

at the canopy, and if you wrap a tape measure around the canopy, the
circumference is 34". It's not so large as to be a kite, but it rolls,
point rolls and KEs EXTREMELY well. But due to the shape, it also
penetrates the wind very well. Everyone who's flown it seems to like it a

I have an old friend doing some work on it, and so far I like the way
