<P>Agree! A couple of amplifications and caveats - </P>
<P>-- we grow Pattern one or two guys at at time - by mentoring and encouraging them to be better pilots, to build better planes (and trim / setup what they have better) and mostly by understanding where they are mentally, financially, and in terms of available time - and helping them make the best use of the resources they have - within the limits of their own motivation.</P>
<P>-- it's sometimes easy after being in the game for awhile to fail to see from the other guy's viewpoint - maybe because after 500 flights / year for a few years we can hear engine stuff (rich idle, boggy transition, lean top end) and see aircraft behaviors that the other guy may just not perceive or understand. It's hard sometimes to help them learn to perceive then understand then correct this stuff... and it usually won't happen in a session or even a season. It all takes patience, time and most important, genuine interest on our part.</P>
<P>Just as a well-known former NSRCA President and VP pointed out that 'you don't save 6 ounces on a pattern plane, you save 1/2 ounce 12 times" -- we won't grow Pattern 6 guys at a time, we do it one guy at a time. </P>
<P>----------and let's not forget that not everyone wants to compete, and not everyone should fly Pattern-- and that's OK too. We SHOULD expose guys to precision flying, encourage their interest, and focus on those who are or can become interested flying better. </P>
