People are people and everybody is competitive in something. Whether it's how good your lawn looks compared to the neigbor, getting ahead at work, golfing, running, ... I could go on and on. I think your missing the boat when you use this thinking as an excuse for why people aren't flying pattern. We're used to going to a contest and getting in maybe 6 flights in two days, I don't care how competitive you are, that's a real commitment for a lot of people, not counting travel time, hotels, etc. I fly pattern, but didn't go to any contests last year due to the time commitment. </o:p></SPAN></o:p></SPAN></FONT><FONT face=Arial color=navy size=2><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: navy; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><o:p>Whenever I've brought up one day contests, I get booed off the list. In the six years I have been competing, I've only stayed the night once due to family commitments on Sunday. I t hink we need to look inward, rather than pointing fingers and saying the world isn't competitive enough to fly pattern with us. </o:p></SPAN></FONT></DIV>

And all competitions traditionally recognize the top finisher, or the top 3, or top 10%, with awards/trophies/etc. I'm with Ed and Matt - I like the award system in pattern the way it is, just my opinion. Promoting pattern and encouraging growth/participation are a separate issue with many avenues available outside of awards/trophies/etc, again, just my opinion.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P></DIV>

In particular share technical tips and product news etc. Unfortunately we sometimes slip into the behavior of the poor-taste ads seen these days in political campaigns.
