mount?

> Hi Ed,
>
> They're not listed on the
Central Hobbies web site (at least as of
> last weekend) but I'm sure
they will be soon. They're shown on
> Central Hobbies back
cover ad in the latest K-Factor at around $60.
> The ad states the
mounts have several of the features my mounts do
> such as
standardized mounting dimensions, pre-drilled motor
> attachment
holes, replaceable aluminum mounting rails, and a light
> weight of
around 3 oz (for the version that requires a nose ring, the
>
non-nose ring version weighs somewhat more).
>
> Isn't it
amazing what a little bit of competition will do to the market?
>
:-)
>
> Anyway, what I'd be careful about is that the ad only
claims a 35%
> reduction in transmitted vibration (it's unclear what
the reference
> point is, one can only assume compared to a hard
mounted motor).
> Anyway, that's not very good, and in some cases it
could excite a
> structural resonance frequency of the airframe and
actually amplify
> the transmitted vibration. I don't think
in most cases it will, but
> as the stiffness of a soft mount
approaches that of a rigid mount,
> the question becomes, " what is
the point of using a soft mount if it
> doesn't filter out the
unwanted vibration?".
>
> There's some other claims in the ad
that IMHO I don't think are
> accurate (or defendable), but that's a
topic of discussion for
> another time, and maybe a different
forum.
>
> FWIW - For those who have been very patiently
waiting, I'm in the
> process of procuring some prototypes of the nose
ring support for my
> soft motor mounts for proof
testing. I'd like to think I'll have
> them available
within a month or two but I won't know for sure until
> the testing is
completed (hopefully soon - this has taken way too
>
long!).
>
> Thx, Jerry
>
>
>>I apologize if
this is repeat topic, but someone mentioned recently
>>that Hyde
had a new, cheaper, non-nose ring mount (type
C?).
>>Someting like $70 at Central? I don't see it on their
website
>>though. Do I have this
right?
>>
>>Thanks
>>Ed
>
>
