<DIV>I agree wholeheartedly! My last new car was a 1981 Chevette, but it
got me 185,000 miles</DIV>
<DIV>It was replaced with an 86 Chevette that went 135K before my wife went deer
hunting with it. </DIV>
<DIV>That was replaced with my only foreign car, a 1989 Mazda 322. I got 170K
out of it, an it was truely on it's last legs at that point. </DIV>
<DIV>The 1997 Ford Escort that replaced it now has 192k and still going strong.
Still has the original clutch. </DIV>
<DIV>Got rid of a 1990 Chevy Lumina APV in the fall of 2004 that I drove for 8
years. It had 217K and I was still towing a utility trailer with it to
contests.</DIV>
<DIV>My personal goal is to limit my cost of ownership to $1000/ year for any
car I buy.; So far, I have averaged under $700.</DIV>

point, GM owned 1% of Toyota. I just checked the Toyota corp's stock symbol-
there's a family of symbols shown - can't easily trace WHERE the ownership

The need to handle 36000 miles a year.<BR>-- Reliability<BR>-- Whether my
van would outlive the payment stream. I wasn't / am not confident that most
'US makes' will either do that.<BR>-- Reputable dealer / support
network. </P>
<P>Based on the above factors, (Consumer Reports information and personal
experience with FMC/ Chrysler family / Gm dealers in the NJ area) my choice
narrowed quickly to Honda and Toyota. </P>
<P>Your mileage may vary; my search led me to a van that may not be the BEST
choice, but it's been good enough so far. </P>
