I’m not sure the variable pitch props were ever sold to the public and I’m pretty sure it was a safety concern.  One needed to have a setup that assured you could never go to high throttle when the prop was at low pitch.  I would think that could be easily accomplished with modern RC equipment and especially with electric power.  Perhaps we will see it again but the question is, is it needed?
