[NSRCA-discussion] Toledo opinion

I wonder how the Southeast Model Show at Perry, Ga went last weekend, haven’t heard much about it. The hype on the coronavirus has picked up dramatically in the last week but it was around

prior to last weekend. Perry used to be a huge show also and may still be as far as I know.

Bob whatever happens one thing that can't be denied.

The members of the Weak Signal club have done everything possible to have a great show each and every year.

All the factors you've mentioned are valid.

Thanks for all the efforts. Toledo has been the destination show for our sport for a ridiculously long stretch.

Everyone needs to do what they believe is the right thing.

The Toledo Show has been a great tradition in the RC hobby. This year marks the 66th year. It has been going on longer than I have been alive. To the best of my knowledge, it is the sole remaining show of this type in the USA.

The life blood of the show is attendance. Unfortunately, due to many factors, the attendance has been in a steady decline. Aging demographics, the internet, free 2 day shipping, etc. have all undermined this type of show. It was once the place for new product announcements and for companies to show of the latest products.

As a member of the Toledo Show committee, we are always concerned about how the attendance will be. Now we are facing a threat which we can do little about. The Toledo Show could be another victim of the Coronavirus.

I will be there.

More than likely 4 weeks from now the situation will be a lot worse than it is now. If I had to make a decision today without availability of refunds I would not make plans to go. It is already too late to stop the spread in the US. We missed that boat (or cruise ship) a couple of weeks ago. You will likely see many more cases reported daily especially as testing becomes more available. Right now many "maybe" patients are not being tested. I am an ED doc in NY and I do not have direct control who gets testing right now. Likely to change as tests become more widely available in the next week or two. In my mind the big "if" for this virus is if it follows the same seasonal course as the Flu which is already on the decline. If it does then it may not get to epidemic proportions in the US before dying out for this season. If it doesn't then we are likely in for significant numbers of people getting sick and many requiring hospitalization.

Guys

How many of you would reconsider and cancel your plans of going to the Toledo RC show based on the Coronavirus scare?

Also if you thought the show would be compromised due to the attendance being reduced?

I'm scheduled to have a large display. Mostly with the Gator RC portion of our businesses.

It's on my mind as to what I should do.

I value this lists feedback.

If you were me what would you do?

I'm in for the booth space cost. The added budget to go, setup, pay the help, provide lodging, gas, meals etc etc etc is in the neighborhood of an added $4000.

So cut my losses or go and expose my crew?

If the Coronavirus hype is valid the greatest risk is to older people. That fits the exact demographic that attends this show.

 Will anyone even be there?

I've emailed the show organizers and asked them to consider rescheduling to an open date in the fall. So far its a firm "the show goes on".

I respect their position. But I have to make up my mind.

Opinions welcome.
