[NSRCA-discussion] 10S UBEC Question

Jerry,

If you look at the data Castle provides for the ProBec, The amps it can supply clearly (and expectedly) drop as input volts increase and output voltage decreases, but I think there is still good overhead for a pattern plane airborne running at 8V and using ~100 mah per flight. Just my opinion, and perhaps Castle Tech support would be able to verify.

I have a 10S 74” Extreme Flight Laser with aggressive servos and 3D throws and a pair of ProBecs (one for 2 aileron servos, one for 2 elev and 1 rud), and when in “pattern” mode, I use the brake and have never had a problem. Certainly a pattern plane is never going to approach the current demand the Laser has when flying 3D and XA.

Regards,

Dave

Dave,

Do you know why the specs state it can only support voltages over 10S for an airplane with the brake disabled? I’m assuming that’s because of the EMF back flow from the ESC into the batteries raises the voltage significantly when the brake engages, but maybe that’s only a problem when running 12s batteries?

Castle ProBec will do that easily.

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] 10S UBEC Question

Does anyone know of a 10S UBEC that will output 8.2V and will handle HV (43.5V) packs? I found one for conventional 10s packs but it only outputs up to 6V.

I bought a pair of OS controllers to use with 2 OS belt drives I have but they don’t have BEC output. Obviously I could go with dual lipos but my preference is to use a BEC with one lipo pack.

Thx, Jerry
