More rounds per day. It can pretty easily be done. Even with 2 sites.

Hi Mike,
just curious, what does a condensed Nats look like? Would this suggest less rounds or more rounds per day?

A condensed Nats ran mostly over a weekend would make having the students fliers more palatable.

+1 to do in September.

Agreed with when kids start, but they get special time off all the time. If there is a kid that wants to fly in the Nats he can get time off. I would love to see it done in September.

Here in the south, many schools start one to two weeks before Labor Day. A September NATS pattern event will not allow our junior members from competing.

The last organized event in Muncie that I know of is the Indiana Warbird Campaign that's over the labor day weekend and takes up site 4.

Would there be less of an issue in September with the sun in the morning being a problem on the right side? Would we need to start a tad later in the am to allow for the shorter daylight?

Hotel availability could be an issue if it coincides with a Ball State football game.

Also there is a weekend in September where they have two large car shows that uses up most of the hotel rooms.

One other thought. If the site is wide open can the Nats be sandwiched into a weekend event to eliminate the need to take a full week of work off?

Say from Wednesday to Saturday? Like this year?

I’m all for September. The NATS should conclude the portion of the year we all share as our flying season.
Youth shouldn’t be part of the discussion. Mark mentioned a few events, and there are others, that dozens of young pilots attend during their school year.

What about September? Weather is gorgeous this time of year here and let’s face it, for many this is the ideal time as we’re coming to the end of our competition season.

I realize the red herring of “kids are back in school” but the reality is that we have VERY few kids… 2 last time. And if you look at Tuscon, Joe Nall, etc you’ll see they have a LOT of kids in attendance that are in school during those times.

July 6-10 no good for many. Remainder of July into August is booked. Should we consider 3rd or 4th week of June (if available) or find another site (much more work and cost to make successful)??

Changing the NATS dates to any week other than the one used in 2019 may place one or more D1 contests at a disadvantage, or need to also be moved due to lack of local event CD. Our D1 2020 season may have to wait to be organized after the NATS dates are solidified for 2020.

So, any interest in setting up a poll? Some actual numbers might help our cause, since it seems everyone is either neutral or against the 7/6 week..

The AMA site is booked for the first two weeks of August for a helicopter event. The last weeks are after school starts.

I think the later the better. After all here in the cold areas we don’t get to start practice maybe the middle of May but this past year it was June due to the wet weather and winds. Plus next year it’s a new schedule so, sometime around mid or late August sounds good.

Monte

I'd prefer the later date for the Nats.

If the 2020 Nats were held July 6th thru the 10th, which means you would be traveling to Muncie on the 4th of July weekend, and the following weekend is the Ball State University Triathelon that normally make hotel reservations almost impossible to get for the Friday July 10th thru that weekend, (note the awards banquet would be held on the Friday night July 10th), will you attend?

If you have no plans on attending the Nats, please do not respond to this question. I am trying to see, of those who normally plan to attend and those planning to attend in 2020 who would change their mind and not attend due to the dates.
