Here's what I use as a visual. I have had excellent luck the last several years in Masters with this combo. The charger I have had longer, and purchased a second since I liked this one so much.

Yes, 10 S. 5000's are a good choice. You can get by with 4400-4500 up to Advanced if you're good at throttle management but 5000's give you some leeway. Many Masters and up guys are using 5500-6000's.
It's nice to have four sets...eight 5 S packs... so you can get through a four-round Saturday without charging. Most but not all fields have electricity available. You'll need a generator if you'll be flying at power-less fields with fewer than four sets.

But, you are still flying 10S, right (2 packs per flight)? Trying to figure out how much I need to invest in batteries and charging solutions .

Welcome back Robert...
I use Zippy Compact 5000mah, 25C 5s packs. Hobbyking sells them for $47, and I always order enough to get free shipping.

I’m preparing to return to pattern flying next year and considering switching from glow to electric. I was just wondering what battery packs are typically used these day for pattern? Is 10S still used and what C and current ratings are being used?
