I always enjoyed reading Ron’s posts over the years. He was very much an ambassador for the hobby and pattern. I didn’t know him well; but can’t help but share the collective loss.

We were all better for knowing him.

I lost touch with him when I went to college in the late 60s, and didn't reconnect until years later when I got back into pattern around 2005. He hadn't changed much, just a little slower than before. His flying as of late was always "entertaining", and listening him and Fuqua during a flight was hilarious.

Ron had had bypass surgery and seemingly was recovering from that with no issues. But sadly after we returned from the Southeast Model Show, Ron had to be admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and other heart related issues from which he never recovered.

Fierce pattern competitor, Contest Director, Nats Event director multiple times, World Championship judge, World Championship co-event director. He was the anchor of the Eglin Aero Modelers for as long as the club has existed and also ran a hobby shop for many, many years.
