Ron,

The SPA has allowed pipes and retracts this year in 2 contest in advanced and expert (open class)
Jamie had one in Prattville a few weeks ago and I'm holding one in Chattanooga TN in august and there are plans for more in 2018 as well as event at Muncie.
So everyone in the south east who wants to have fun again in pattern breakout those classics with pipes and retracts and come to chattanooga Tn.

I will post more info soon.

Sa.

Hey Ron. If SPA was going on around here I wouldn't care about the rules. Our CPA contests are not really about models but about the fun of one maneuver per pass. We let just about anything fly. I really think this will be the only way to bring the better then average sport flier in to competition RC aerobatics. The vast majority don't have the cabbage for Pattern or IMAC and are being left out in the cold. Plus we do only 1-day contests and that also really helps them out.

Try it, I bet you'll love it. Whole different type of event and people.

I might be doing SPA right now if the rules weren’t so messed up. No retracts or pipes, but you may use .90 cu in+ 4-strokes! Many of the Daddy Rabbit, Intruder and Dirty Birdy airplanes have dimensions that are in excess of the allowable discrepancies from the original models, particularly the fuselage length. A friend had a Curare and a Super Curare, but only the Curare was acceptable and the only real difference was in the canopy area. Go figure.

I walked away from the SPA more than 20 years ago, but, even with the messed up rules, I might go back.

SPA is doing that now... there are 5 SPA contests in the DFW area alone. I couldn’t do 5 AMA Pattern events within 3-6hrs of here now.

We can only dream, can't we.

If we're not careful, perhaps AMA pattern will evolve back into Curare's with retracts and a screaming piped .61 glow powered engine up front with a single maneuver each pass. Who knows?
