Yup, it's a specific ingrained psyche characteristic and the percentage of
individuals participating that actually
possess it I perceive is unfortunately extremely low !!!!  But, for those
who are so programmed the diminution
of the passion and drive appears to linger long into the advance of years
irrespective of declining skill levels
( take it from a passionate 87 year old Pattern Pilot ).
