I think it's the context that we put that statement in. Sometimes it comes 
across as a little condescending, which is unintentional. Pattern flying does 
make you a better flyer, if anything, a more disciplined flyer. For me, it's not 
about boring holes in the sky but, instead, gives me purpose. This is what has 
built my skills as a model airplane pilot.
