Seriously, appreciate the advice.

I had a serious problem with aluminum arms on certain JR servos…..the bag works very well.
Just hold a piece over the spline and press down on the arm….fixed.

Take a small piece of a plastic bag and sandwich it between the splines and the output arm. That will reduce/eliminate the slop. Some plastic arms don't fit right either.

I find that 0.13 dead band works well. Gear wear isnt usually a problem with the 173, the Futaba aluminum arms dont fit the splines tightly though you might check this if using these arms. Lots of folks use the 173 on bipe ailerons (which tend to be smaller). Some time ago I measured servo current draw on each surface and ailerons were by far the highest as Peter notes, big surface. At 7.5v they might be OK, I use the BLS171 which has 60 or so more oz-in torque. Ive also found that servos slow a fair bit whenever current draw exceeds 60% of stall current another reason to err on the high side.

Guys,
I'm new to Futaba programable servos. Have new BLS173SV on ailerons and have a bit of "slop" in the servo output. I'm confident that the majority of the slop is in the servo, not the linkage.

Should I need to replace gears after only a couple hundred flights? Hard to tell, but seems like there is too much slop with power off, so adjusting settings may not be the answer. Can't find the gearset on Futaba or Tower website anyway. Anybody know the part number and how/where to order?

I was going to try reducing the deadband from .36 to .20.
Recommendations on programable parameter settings improve centering?

Thanks, Dan
