[NSRCA-discussion] Team Success

As a side story about our team, I have to tell you about the unselfish and genuine giving of the team members and closely related competitors in the FAI field. During the makings of the Blytheville Nats, in order to make it the best I could I pursued asking the team members months in advance if they would consider judging the semis and the finals of FAI. It was a shot in the dark. Typically the team members commitment to the world championships consume whatever spare time and resources they might have, but I wanted to try. To my surprise and delight they were all very receptive to helping any way they could. The only thing better than that would be that they compete.
It was one of the greatest gifts the Nats had this past year. Every single one of them went way above and beyond. That includes Mark Atwood the team manager-as if he didn’t have enough to do.
Jason agreed to judge. The next thing I know he entered. Same with AC Glenn. Brett W. and Bryan Hebert came and helped judge and work. They also donated an aircraft the help the Nats be successful. Andrew Jesky could not be there because of work commitments but he sent an aircraft to donate to the Nats-he was there is spirit and his dad came and donated his time as a site director-a big time job.
All of them could have legitimately opted out but they gave time, money and effort to help make the Nats a legitimate first class event.
It was just such a great gift from them and I will be forever grateful and admire them for this.
These are the kind of guys they are.
One of the very cool things is that Jason won the Nats with Andrew’s design the Acuity.
My thanks to them for all of them and their involvement.
Mike

Well said Mark and you are “right on”….regardless, bravo to you and the team for the extraordinary efforts to represent the USA and our sport. I’m happy as are so many of us to contribute in many ways to help this great effort on behalf of the NSRCA…… Jay

I need to jump in here and say something about the success Team USA has had over the past decade. I appreciate all the accolades and praise, and it’s nice to be recognized for the effort that’s put in. So thank you. But the success that the team has is a very big picture, and actually includes all of you. And I don’t just mean as financial supporters. Hear me out.
First off, the true success obviously goes to our pilots. Watching them fly in the conditions we had, under the heavy pressure of World Championship Finals… well you know what i’m talking about. They’re phenomenal.
But a BIG part of the credit, for their ability, AND their participation at all, goes to all of us. We complain a lot about judging, bias, halo, blah blah blah. But you have no idea what that’s like on the world stage, and from other countries. I won’t name names, but some of the very top flyers didn’t even get ON their world team for years due to legacy pilots holding those spots.
We may have small issues in this regard, but in the end, our best pilots EARN their way onto the team. If Andrew or Jason don’t put up the flights, they don’t make the team. Period. We also spend time collectively learning what to judge and how to judge it. As a result, we not only send our best, but our best are VERY well prepared.
And lastly, the level of overall competition in the US is very very high, which means our best, ARE the best.
Then throw in all the support everyone gives, financial, logistical, emotional… and we’re damn near unstoppable. So again, thank you, but kudos to US Pattern and everyone who’s involved.
-Mark

Marks never lost a WC as Team USA manager.
Of course, his team has been way over the salary cap for all those years but nevertheless. 4 for 4 is impressive!!!!!!
He's also very good at raising funds. Just ask my wife who does our books.
Thanks, Mark, job well-done sir.
