Start out by typing: "faa.gov" ONLY in your browser's address bar.  Then scroll down to the bottom of that web page and follow the links to "Register your UAS".

It should only ask you for your:

1) email address
2) a password
3) a response to a confirmation email sent back to you
4) some personal information: First / Last Name.  Physical Address.  Everything else is OPTIONAL.
5) Your Credit Card information
6) An emailed and a printable copy of your shiny new FAA certificate.

How did you sign up. I went there once. They were asking what type of drone and where i purchased it and on and on.
