I should have noted the stock settings are calibrated for Castle ESCs.

I am using the Castle Creations Phoenix Edge HV 80.
Several others in my club are using the OS 1100 ESC and they wonder whether they could benefit from the stock settings or would have to reprogram the Throttle-Tech.
BTW, are the O.S. OCA-1100 ESCs ever going to be available from Great Planes/Tower Hobbies again? Ron

It depends mostly on which ESC you have. Refer back to Earl's post.  It's very simple to set up to get a consistent throttle response for the entire flight. Earls post and the link that he shared get you there easily.  Also, as Earl pointed out, savings in mAh are highly dependent on your existing habits going into this exercise.  More than anything, it's about achieving very good throttle consistency with reduced pilot workload.  Saving some battery and being able to configure to always ace the noise test *legally* are additional benefits that fall out of the throttle leveling algorithm.

Check peak watts at the start of the flight....and after 1000 mah discharged....and 2000 mah discharged...etc.  There is a difference.  For our use, C rating may not work as one might expect.  Given our ambient starting temp is lower than the temp where lipos are most efficient, a gradual increase in lipo temp can offset power loss as the pack discharges.  Depending on ambient temp, discharge rate, effectiveness of cooling air, etc, higher C batteries may actually show a more pronounced drop in power.
Anyone want to guess what amount of power reduction (in terms of watts) the stock TT settings represent?

Im sure you see a difference between the 4000 and 4500,  but I dont think thw throttle tech will help you, you seem to have good mah average honestly. If you were up at 3600 mah you would definitely benefit.

I use 4000s and 4500s with C ratings of 30-35.

At those mah, you really shouldnt have a loss of vertical power at the end of the flight.
What batts and c rating?

2800 - 3200 mah

How many mah are you using in masters sequence?

I don’t use the gear switch for throttle.  The tongue-in-cheek response was for Hochhalter’s benefit.
My reason for using the Throttle-Tech was the same as yours.  Maybe I was not as sensitive in the past to the throttle’s effect between the start and end of the flight as you probably would be, but I suspect that the HOT weather will show its benefit to me on verticals near the end of the Master maneuver schedule.
I read Earl Haury’s writeup on the Throttle-Tech and, as usual, Earl answered almost every question I had about it.

Ron,
What programming / use do you have for your gear switch?  If it is as I suspect, TT is still working as intended.
Earl is spot on.  My concept for TT was not for saving mah, but reducing the power differential between the start and end of the flight.  TT has pretty close to no effect on the mah per flight I use.
Increasing the compensation factor reduces the peak power available and keeps the power level more constant deeper into a discharge.  Reducing the compensation factor increases the peak power available with greater likelihood of the power dropping off deeper into the discharge.  Of course this assumes a reasonably healthy setup to begin with.
With Castle ESCs, I'd suggest any setups that seem to benefit from less than 15 or more than 25 for compensation factor are less than optimal setups and could be more efficient with a change in props, kv, batteries, etc.

Thanks for the assistance.  However, having the throttle on the gear switch has always worked well in the past.  If this thing is so good, how come it can’t handle that situation?
BTW, just a suggestion:  Don’t turn your back on me at the Nats or you’ll be in for a little surprise.

Ron,
if you still have the throttle on the gear switch, you will not see an advantage to the TT.

I am glad to see others talk about the Throttle-Tech.  I have had one for more than a month, but had never seen one in anyone else’s airplane until a contest in Andersonville, GA a couple of weeks ago.
Mine ran right out of the box and I was glad, because the instructions for resetting parameters goes on for 15 pages!
I must admit that I haven’t seen outstanding results, but that might be because I haven’t put my airplane in conditions where the Throttle-Tech’s presence will pay off.  However that will probably change, since we are getting into HOT weather here and will be using more mah in a flight than in the cool weather.
I’ll report any significant results and hope that others will as well.
