[NSRCA-discussion] FAA Registration begins December 21

Our SS#s are legally limited to social security uses only. Indiana used to use the SS3 for the state drivers license. The threat of a lawsuit from gthe treasurer at teh very conservative college I was on the faculty of, caused Indiana to issue their own unique, non-SS# numbers. The SS# is not supposed to be a government ID number, but it is frequently used as such. IF the faa asks for my SS#, they may get 123-45-6789...

Bully for the AMA but in this case I believe they are more like the AAA Auto club. A trip-tik, a map or some lovely accessories from the gift shop but you still have to deal with the DMV yourself. Do we know what additional information the FAA wants that the AMA doesn't have. Say your SS# to attach your records to the IRS? Maybe some of the already registered full scale pilots can shed some light here. Government is like the 'big bang theory' of an ever expanding universe. I am unaware of a mechanism that has successfully ever shrunk government incursion. Once registered, what about the other involved agencies? HLS, INS, ICE, ATF, FBI, NTSB, BP, DEA, CG, (FDA?)... I think we are just witnessing the sunrise folks. 
We are all aware of the ridiculous degrees of separation between each of us and FAA committee that implemented this, but. I very much encourage you to send a written letter to each of your U.S. Senators and Representatives. It must be a full FACTUAL explanation of the problem as you know it. The more detailed the better. Remember they don't have the detail in front of them (yet). Include a statement of the real or perceived harm that you would be subjected to. Also include a proposed solution to the problem, if you don't, you might just end up with the solution we already have. Now proudly stand up, with your torch and pitch fork in hand, and put your name address on the letter. 
You will invest less time than you spend adjusting your ailerons. You will receive a limp noddle letter of response for your effort but I assure you that this is not an indication of the level of impact your letter has on the constituent services department within each elected officials office. Once they know you are out here, your continued follow up has greater validity. We elected them, lets put them to work for us.
