Actually, if you're not a US citizen, you have to do it by paper and snail mail.  Only US Citizens can use the website so if you fly in the US, according to the FAA, you still must register and cannot fly unregistered here.  I believe Rex pointed out why that'd be a pain.

It's over reach and redundant to the AMA membership requirement of having your AMA # or name in the plane, but whatever, I'm happy to comply and really don't see the point in getting my blood pressure elevated over this.  I suspect sanity will return over time as AMA and FAA continue to work together here, hopefully in a spirit of partnership rather than an adversarial relationship.

OR....simply give your foreign buddy a dollar for their plane....print your registration # on a piece of paper and tape it inside the plane....give them a copy of your proof of registration....you are good to go!  They can buy it back when they are ready to go home!   I forget, what was the whole reason behind registration?   :-)

I see no reason why CDs or clubs need to be involved. This is between the individual and the FAA. Unless AMA makes checking this be a requirement, we should not do anything. I don't recall AMA checking FCC licenses back before the FCC realized that trying to control Citizens Band was as useless as this is.

Good questions which need to be addressed, pattern or not.  The CD's are going to have to make sure each entrant is registered or offer a way to have them register at the field.  The registration # does not replace the AMA # but must be contained in or on the model and accessible without tools.  Heck, AMA clubs are going to have to make sure each person flying on a Sunday afternoon is registered.  Within the NSRCA, I hope to address this at our next board meeting to try to get y'all some answers as to how we could/should handle pattern events.  They are AMA events though so hopefully we can get some answers for y'all through the S.I.G.

Vicente, I think the 400 ft AGL rule has always been in place per se.

Well, here it is boys and girls.  It's official and starts next Monday.  The link is for the FAQ's of what's happening. 

 You only have to register once and you don't have to individually register all of your models.

You must be able to provide proof of registration and have it on you when flying.

You must have your Registration # (not going to be a N number) in your airplane where it is legible and accessible without the use of tools (aka under your canopy).  

If you sell a model, you should update your records. (I don't completely understand this if we aren't registering all of our models individually but, OK)

Registration is $5 but you'll get that back if you register in the first 30 days, I believe.
