[NSRCA-discussion] FAA Registration begins December 21

That’s easy for you to say, you can’t lose your job over this crap. The FAA has already notified AOPA that they consider UAS’s “aircraft” in regards to a full-scale pilot’s license.

Once this gets on the books, your local FSDO office will be required to show their superiors that they are taking action to enforce this new rule. Being government employees that work 9-5, M-F, where do you think they are going to go to document their enforcement? Stake out local school yards in hopes of busting some kid? No, he’ll head straight to the model field where he can reliably catch multiple violators in one trip – saving enough time to hit the donut shop before quitting time. And anyone who thinks that FAA won’t have the full-scale license database connected to the UAS database is a fool.

I think you give the Government waaaay too much credit.

I really think we’re over thinking this. In the end, this will have little or no impact on us. Yes, it’s a nuisance and like the FCC license will eventually go away. In the mean time, it’s a rule on the books to placate the masses that “something is being done about those pesky and dangerous ‘Drones’ “ and it gives them some jurisdiction for the complete idiot that does indeed do something stupid like fly into the whitehouse lawn or prevent life flight from landing at an emergency scene. For the rest of us, this is a non-event.

They'll enforce it at the easiest place to do so . . . The model field. Also expect them to go after your full scale license, even though there are no standards for that.

I expect this to put a big stake through the heart of RC airplanes in the US.

Well, here it is boys and girls. It's official and starts next Monday. The link is for the FAQ's of what's happening.

You only have to register once and you don't have to individually register all of your models.

You must be able to provide proof of registration and have it on you when flying.

You must have your Registration # (not going to be a N number) in your airplane where it is legible and accessible without the use of tools (aka under your canopy).

If you sell a model, you should update your records. (I don't completely understand this if we aren't registering all of our models individually but, OK)

Registration is $5 but you'll get that back if you register in the first 30 days, I believe.

Have a look at the link and prepare to be upset.....
