[NSRCA-discussion] Hacker C50 Comp fan FYI

Ok, all of you Hacker C50 experts; I have a C50-14XL Acro 6.7:1 in the Spark I'm using as a test bed. This is one of the older ones that had the gear box that screws onto the motor, rather than being attached with bolts. Is there any way to economically add a fan to this one? The gear box gets very hot to the touch. I'm careful to let it cool between flights, but I'd like to keep it cooler in flight. I don't see anything on this motor on the Hacker USA website (or whatever it is called nowdays).

Jon

Looks to me like you could get the same effect by removing the phenolic ring off the old one. I flew a whole season with the ring removed a few years back. No change in temps or performance.

FYI, I just received a new fan for a Hacker C50 Comp from Aero Model and at first I thought they sent me the wrong part. But it turns out Hacker made a change to the fan. You need to remove the old fan and the brass spacer and clean the shaft before installing the new one. I also added a couple of 6mm shims to match the combined length of the old fan and brass shim. The new fan does not have set screws, it needs to be green loctited in place.

I attached a picture with the old fan and shim on the left and the new fan on the right.
