[NSRCA-discussion] NATS Judging

I disagree, I believe multiple choice should be an option...the point is to
educate and inform. Thanks to all of you for your dedication and work, but
obviously, I am not the only one that feels like it is burdensome and
troublesome.

I think the one thing y'all need to remember is that this is an automated
test. Multiple choice is not an option for whatever reason. Each time,
Derek goes through and adds synonyms to each proper answer for every blank.
He spends hours and hours trying to make this better. If it wasn't for him
and the effort that is put forth, all of us would be sitting in a classroom
to get certified. Its not perfect and is still a work in progress but
considering its free for members and doesn't require you to sit in the
classroom, I'd say its worth the minor hassles. We continually try to make
things better for our whole community.

I was doing a 5hr test flight into Little Rock AR on one of my customers

the test with a 74% do to my choice of words in some of the blanks. Rule
book not available at the time I took the test. Now I have to re do it.
Maybe if at the end of the test it would give you the chance to verify or
correct the questions that were not answered correctly instead of having to
take the whole test again, won't be as annoying.

Just my thought.

I just took the AMA test (and passed thankfully!). How long before the site
list is updated to reflect that?

Regarding the test itself, I was able to pass with 85% from memory. The
questions missed though were extremely annoying, in that it was a matter of
trying to guess the correct sequence of words. I think the single word
fill in the blanks were ok. It's the 5 word sequences that include trivial
words like "to" that seem to need revising.

I agree with Derek that it's tough to set a stand alone test that everyone
agrees with and that isn't so tough that it discourages participation.
As time goes by, and the general level of judging gets better (or the
downgrades become increasingly common knowledge and well-understood), there
will be a need to raise the bar on the certification process and someone
will need to put in some hard work to push us to the next level.

I did them both.the system worked OK.but still disappointed with the
format.you can know what you are talking about but still fail the test if
you don't use the exact words. The test probably forces people to read the
book that would otherwise never do first off, but as a re-certification
test, it is more a memory puzzle than anything else.

Better than sitting in a hot room for an hour in a sweaty t-shirt at the end
of a day, though.

Because AMA and FAI are on different rules cycles, a year apart. Happened
several cycles ago. AMA Masters and Advanced sequences and rules changed
for this year. FAI changed in 2012.

Chuck,
I was partially incorrect. You show as current for FAI, but not AMA.

For all,
As Derek said, you MUST sign in to the site to see the judges list. You do
NOT have to be an NSRCA member to get a login. On the pull down, you can
sort by various means (last name, district, etc).

Keith,
It's only a flesh wound...

Ok I don't see where that is Jon. I see a drop down on the top that leads to
the wrong list like John but nothing on the right. Am I on the right
site?????
Also I thought it had to be everyother year like Chuck and I certified
before the Nats last year. It's every year now?
Thanks, Mike

On the right hand side of the screen there is a pull down menu where you
select the Certified Judges list. Not real obvious, I will admit.

Scott/Derek
If you go to the website and click on judging/certification/certified judges
list you get this list "This list will produce a list of all registered
members of the website that have verified their email addresses. This is
not a list of NSRCA members."'

What you do not get is a list of certified judges. For that you must go to
Lists/membership lists. ????????????

There are still quite a few people attending the NATS who have not taken the
judging certification test. You are REQUIRED to be certified to judge at
the NATS. If you are not certified, that means you miss a judging session
and will lose your highest round.

Please take the time, if you have not done so to go to the NSRCA site and
complete the judging test...
