[NSRCA-discussion] NATS Judging

I do think we need to make an effort to get our schedules on the same cycle. This has added tremendous confusion to the process, and basically requires people to pay annually to get their judging certified. What's more, it can cause grief for the Nat's CD since people can be certified to judge AMA and not FAI or vice versa in which case they're limited in how they can staff the judging. Our nats registration doesn't say anything about having to be certified in both AMA and FAI classes.
I also think there's some merit in differentiating between original certification and re-certification. My son (16) certified on line the first time and really felt like he didn't know what he was doing. He knew the rules by taking the test, but with no video, no discussion, no ability to ask questions of a group, it was minimally helpful. This year we attended one of the judging certification classes where he saw the original video (outdated, but still very on point and very valuable if you're seeing it for the first time) and sat through some good discussion with other new pattern pilots and really came away with a much better understanding of how we judge. I on the other, took away very little, but was able to provide quite a bit to the new people in the group.
Recertification is a different matter… emphasizing changes to the rules, and highlighting changes to the sequences. If anything, the current test almost hides those changes amid all the other rules we've followed for years. I realize I'm advocating for more work, but I think getting away from the cert classes for beginners is a mistake.

The new FAI rule book will be published on 1/1/14. That rule book will be good for two years. (2014 & 2015) The current rule book expires on 12/31/13, just like our FAI certifications!
Thanks

Which means we are all certifiable<g>
Nuts that is.
Which brings up another question. The FAI rule book is good through 2015? Does that mean we do not need to recertify until the new book comes out for 2016?
If that is the case, certifications should be good through the end of 2015 not 2013?

So basically now we need to recertify annually?

Because AMA and FAI are on different rules cycles, a year apart. Happened several cycles ago. AMA Masters and Advanced sequences and rules changed for this year. FAI changed in 2012.

Chuck,
I was partially incorrect. You show as current for FAI, but not AMA.
For all,
As Derek said, you MUST sign in to the site to see the judges list. You do NOT have to be an NSRCA member to get a login. On the pull down, you can sort by various means (last name, district, etc).
Keith,
It's only a flesh wound...

Ok I don't see where that is Jon. I see a drop down on the top that leads to the wrong list like John but nothing on the right. Am I on the right site?????
Also I thought it had to be everyother year like Chuck and I certified before the Nats last year. It's every year now?
Thanks, Mike

On the right hand side of the screen there is a pull down menu where you select the Certified Judges list. Not real obvious, I will admit.

Scott/Derek
If you go to the website and click on judging/certification/certified judges list you get this list “This list will produce a list of all registered members of the website that have verified their email addresses. This is not a list of NSRCA members.”’
What you do not get is a list of certified judges. For that you must go to Lists/membership lists. ????????????

There are still quite a few people attending the NATS who have not taken the judging certification test. You are REQUIRED to be certified to judge at the NATS. If you are not certified, that means you miss a judging session and will lose your highest round.
Please take the time, if you have not done so to go to the NSRCA site and complete the judging test...
