Does anyone know the finer details of Finals judging?

20 judges in 3 groups: 5 assigned to left maneuvers, 10 judging the center and 5 on the right.

That’s a lot of chairs on one line! How do they arrange the judges and scribes?

When doing TBL, each group must be considered independently and each group must judge the same set of maneuvers.

“Group A” judges must score maneuvers 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17. (center)

“Group B” judges must score maneuvers 2, 6, 10 and 14. (upwind)

“Group C” judges must score maneuvers 4, 8, 12 and 16. (downwind)

What happens if a pilot decides to go a different direction? If the TA judge is seated at the wrong end, box violations could be difficult to judge.

5.1.12 The direction of the first manoeuver or the landing may be different from that of take-off. (Good thing the way Midvaal is configured!)

Unlike AMA which states direction of takeoff determines direction of first maneuver.
