[NSRCA-discussion] Android "caller"

The bawdier, the funnier, depending of course, on who your passengers are. The whole trick is keeping it secret so you maintain the shock value when she spits out the response. There’s a built-in Garmin in my new van, but it just recalculates without saying anything. Not sure how or if it’s possible to edit the voice prompts.

I originally wanted to increase the maximum volume on my portable Garmin which was pretty low. In the process of researching it, I discovered the voice editor and couldn’t resist the potential. For a while, I was changing the responses quite often to entertain fellow detectives who would accompany me occasionally on an investigation. You’ve got to get pretty bawdy to humor a salty old gumshoe….

Leave it to you, Verne! I can only imagine what some of the responses were!

There’s a voice editor available on-line that allows one to change the pre-canned responses in a Garmin as well as some other features like raising the maximum volume. Anyway, I changed mine from “recalculating” to “dammit”. I tried some other expressions as well, but back to “dammit” since my daughters were occasionally in the van while the Garmin was on. The app is called “TTS Voice Editor” and is readily available for free download. It’s very easy to use and guaranteed to get a surprised laugh from an unsuspecting passenger. The pre-canned responses are just text and you can change them to whatever you want.

Don’t you know what “recalculating” really means?

 Funny!!!

I wish the voice on my Garmin would talk back to me when I think I know a better way. It could say something like "Wrong....again!!!"

With all the Android reader and voice command apps out there, has anyone tried to configure something to be an "Android Caller" ??? It would be nice to type in short forms of the maneuvers and then have them read back through a bluetooth earpiece with configurable voice commands like "next" or "repeat".
