Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] The Nats vs. Gary Courtney

Those of you at the Nats know Gary lost his Spark (actually borrowed from Andrew
Jesky) during Sunday practice. Then he judged all week including four rounds of
fai and masters finals. He finished judging complaining of a massive headache
which we attributed to the sun and dehydration. He insisted on going home
without getting checked by a doctor, and to make a long story short, he is in
the hospital with meningitis. Drs. aren't sure if it is bacterial or viral, but
he is in bad shape at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Al. After several hours
with him in the emergency room at their satellite hospital they transferred him
last nite to the main hospitals infectious disease section. On doctor's advice,
I went back to the emergency ward and got a prophylactic dose of antibiotics
because I was around him all week. The doctor told me that other people are at
low risk. They are pumping him full of antibiotics until cultures come back and
id the strain and bacteria l vs. Viral. FWIW, symptoms are bad headache, fever
with chills, stiff neck, then extreme lower back pain. I've never witnessed so
much pain.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers and I will update as I know more.
