Hi Jim,
   A scribe is paired with a judge and basically takes dictation.  The
scribe writes down the score that the judge gives for each maneuver for each
pilot that is scored.  They do this sometimes so that the judge doesn't have
to take his eyes off the airplane.  I have no idea of the hours at this
point but I will pass your e-mail on to Derek although he is probably
monitoring this thread as well.  Thank you for the offer sir.
