Thanks... the really big thanks must go to the team of Jon Carter and Rick Wallace.

I believe the approach of using virtual flights to enhance the learning experience is a really good one. I'd like to ask for feedback from people who were there. This may be something we add to the website as another learning tool.

Judging Seminar in Northern Virginia was a success.  We had 23 participants and excellent discussion which was really made in great part from Matt for coming through with the presentation material.   We spent the first hour going through the rules change summary for 2011 and the Judging Video.  Next we went through the tests.  The feedback was excellent with respect to an approach we used.  Those who pre-registered were asked to come to the seminar with their tests completed.  This allowed us to spend more time on the discussion of answers and helped the learning process.  Next we went through each powerpoint presentation (again thanks Matt and Ed for getting the draft out).  After we went through the powerpoint for each class, we would then judge a seqence real time that was pre-recorded on the flight simulator.  After the flight was judged, we discussed each score and the downgrades that judges saw.  We could re-wind and look at the maneuver again to discuss and observe the defects. This was really informative because in one instance a maneuver was really messed up, but the following maneuver was flown extremely well.  We were able to discuss how that could potentially impact scores of the follow on maneuver.  Finally, several maneuvers were flown incorrectly and it helped to highlight that aspect (learning the sequences and how to spot incorrectly flown maneuvers). Joseph and I also pre-recorded some segments with cross-wind and how that looks with respect to drift  in stalled maneuvers (e.g., not a downgrade).   In the afternoon we had an outdoor flying segment with the Black Magic to complement the indoor session.  Stall turns and spin entries were demonstrated in the wind, along with other maneuvers which some of the participants wanted clarification on downgrades and also wind correction techniques.  Chris and Archie got a few flights on their new pattern planes and we all enjoyed the company and friendships built.  Several others got their planes trimmed out and ready for the season with lots of help available and dedicated to assist as needed.
 
I'd like to thank Matt and Ed (again) for the material, LCAA for hosting the event, NVRC for providing the lunch.
